Historian Erin Kramer will discuss how relationships between the Dutch and Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) shaped responses to New York merchant and rebel governor Jacob Leisler’s uprising in the Albany region. By incorporating Haudenosaunee stories into the broader narrative of New York history, this talk will illustrate how Indigenous diplomacy often had a profound effect on local politics and colonial identities. This program is the fourth in our 2026 Jacob Leisler Library Lectures, which are presented collaboratively with the Jacob Leisler Institute for Early New York History and the library.
